McAdams dropped its season opener under first-year coach Roy Rigsby to Sebastopol 40-0, a loss made worse by a key injury.
“It was a rough start with the kids getting adjusted to schemes,” Rigsby said. “We have work to do. Even though the score was pretty bad, our kids are learning They didn't quip, even after the experience of a horrific injury to one of our star players.”
Senior wide receiver/defensive back Tydarious Williams suffered a fractured neck bone while throwing a block. A full recovery is expected, but his high school career is over.
Rigsby said Sebastopol is better than they have been in recent years. “They have a good coaching staff They're well equipped.”
Sebastopol was led by quarterback Ma'karious Michaels, who threw touchdown passes of 70 yards to Tyler Perkins and 50 yards to Jake Kimble and ran for a TD.
Rigsby said linebacker Ed Stewart played well for McAdams.
Next up for the Bulldogs is a home game Friday with Hamilton. The Lions opened the season with a 41-6 victory over Hatley.
“It's going to be a challenge,” Rigsby said.
