The next stop for the McAdams boys track team is the 1A South State meet after the Bulldogs won Region 3-1A at Winona High School.
Led by Jamarques Spivey, McAdams finished with 102 points to 82 for runnerup West Tallahatchie. Simmons was third with 78 points, followed by French Camp 70, South Delta 64, Shaw 50, Noxapater 41, West Bolivar 26 and Ethel 11.
Spivey, a freshman, won the 100 in 11.14 seconds and the 200 (22.72). He also anchored the 400 relay that finished first in 46.73 and the fifth place 800 relay. That's 34 points.
Other runners in the 400 relay were Ja'Myran Cross, Marcus Ball and Zyion Christian.
Kurt Mitchell also had an outstanding meet competing in four events. He was third in the 300 hurdles, third in the triple jump, fourth in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the high jump, totaling 21 points.
Coach Mitchell Myer praised the 1600 relay team that finished first with its best time of 3:45. Runners were, Jacqusese Greer, Jamar Teague, Omari Barron-Hampton and Chris Harmon.
The top four in each event qualified for South State that will be held Saturday at Clinton High School.
“I feel very confident,” Myer said. “They have proven that they are capable of competing with other schools.”
Other qualifiers for McAdams: Greer second in the 1600, Barron-Hampton third in the 400, Teague third in the 800, Willie Perteet third in the long jump and Jatarrius Roundtree third in the shot put.
Ethel had one boy and one girl qualify for South State. Ladamian Merritt was second in the boys 400 and Jasmine Williamson, an eighth grader, finished fourth in the girls 1600.
Ayden Watkins, an eighth grader, was the only winner for French Camp, finishing first in the 3200 with a clocking of 12:32.
Girls
McAdams girls finished fourth with 46 points. South Delta won the meet with 155, 12 more than two-time defending state champion French Camp. Simmons was third with 76, Shaw fifth 34, West Tallahatchie sixth 26½, Noxapater seventh 14 ½, West Bolivar eighth 14 and Ethel ninth with 7 points.
McAdams had two firsts. Kiyah Harmon won the high jump, clearing 4 feet 6 inches, and Bryia Harmon the shot put with a throw of 31 feet. Kiyah Harmon also took fourth in the long jump.
Ja’Niah Greer was third in the high jump, the 1600 relay team was third, the 400 and 800 relays both finished fourth.
Kimara Lewis, Rashayla Hood, Jayda Evans and Lafame Weatherby ran in the 1600, Amber Harmon, Kenady Cross, Kiyah Harmon and Carlessia Hairston in the 400 and Kiyah Harmon, Amber Harmon, Cross and Hairston on the 800.
Lucy Littlejohn had an outstanding meet for French Camp. She won the 800 (2:43), 1600 (5:44) and 3200 (14:45) and ran on the winning 3200 relay team, along with Neely Kilgore, Kaylee Wallace and Ellen Ulerich.
