Two wins last week to complete the regular season gave McAdams boys the top seed in this week’s Region 6-1A tournament at Leake County. The Bulldogs began play Tuesday against either Ethel, the fourth seed, or fifth seed Noxapater.
McAdams defeated French Camp 70-35 and Ethel 77-67. Both games were pretty much over at halftime, with leads of 48-16 against French Camp and 48-26 against Ethel.
Tyrick Davis led the Bulldogs against French Camp with 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals. Cameron Fleming had 13 points.
In the Ethel game, Fleming was three of six on 3-point shots and five of five from the line in scoring 20 points. Jacquese Greer had 13 points, 10 steals, seven rebounds and four assists.
Anton Clark made nine of 12 shots and scored 19 points for Ethel.
McAdams was outscored 41-29 in the second half and the 67 points allowed was the most this season. “We were doing some things differently. We played some different combinations to look forward for the future,” said coach Kenyon Ross.
Ethel outshot McAdams 49.1 percent to 29.5, but the Bulldogs had 23 steals and forced 37 turnovers, resulting in 34 points.
McAdams finished the regular season 18-2, including 9-1 in region, play, tied with Leake County. The Bulldogs and Gators split their two regular season games, both winning at home.
McAdams is assured of qualifying for the 1A playoffs and would have home court for the opening round with a victory Tuesday. The title game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Friday, with McAdams seeking a third straight championship.
“What we did in the regular season is over,” Ross said. “We have to refocus and know that its zero-zero now.”
The opening round of the payoffs is scheduled for next Tuesday. McAdams will play a team from 8-1A – Enterprise-Lincoln, Lumberton. Resurrection, Richton and Salem. Ross doesn’t know very much about those teams. “They’re going to be well coaches and well disciplined.”
