McAdams boys and girls track teams both finished fifth at the South State 1A meet hosted by Clinton High School.
In a tightly contested contest for the boys, the top five teams were separated by only 11½ points. Resurrection Catholic finished first with 72 points, followed by West Tallahatchie 70, Leake County 68, Simmons 61, McAdams 60½, French Camp 52, Richton 43½ , South Delta 37, Sebastopol 36, Shaw 36, Noxapater 24, West Bolivar 23, Piney Woods 22, Bay Springs 14, Mt. Olive 14, Taylorsville 12, Ethel 10, Lumberton 7 and Mississippi School for the Deaf 2.
Jamarques Spivey was the standout athlete for McAdams. He won the 100 in 11.28 and 200 (23.16) and anchored the 400 relay team that finished third. Spivey was joined on the relay by Willie Perteet, Marcus Ball and Ja'Myran Cross.
The top four in each event qualified for the 1A state meet Friday at Pearl High School.
Other qualifier for the boys: Jacquese Greer third in the 1600, Kurt Mitchell fourth in the 300 hurdles and the 1600 relay team of Greer, Jamar Teague, Chris Harmon and Omari Barron-Hampton finished third.
Rain fell during most of the meet. “The rain threw us off a little, but we know what we need to do for Friday,” said coach Mitchell Myer.
Ladamian Merritt, Ethel's only participant, won the 400 with a time of 53.63.
French Camp boys also had one winner, Christian Davis in the 800 (2:18.10). Ayden Watkins and Josiah Dwyers took second and third in the 3200, Silas Hodge was second in the discus and Conner Shurden fourth in the 1600.
Girls
McAdams junior Kiyah Harmon cleared the bar at 4 feet 8 inches to win the high jump. She was also third in the long jump and Bryia Harmon took second in the shot put.
South Delta edged French Camp, the two time defending state champion, for the teem title 132 to 123. They were followed by Resurrection 70, Simmons 63, McAdams 39, Sebastopol 35, Bay Springs 30, Leake County 24, Richton 22, West Tallahatchie 18, Taylorsville 18, Shaw 16, Mt. Olive 15, Lumberton 10, Piney Woods 10, West Bolivar 9 and Mississippi School for the Deaf 2.
French Camp won five events, Lucy Littlejohn in the 800 (2:45.75) and 3200 (13:40.97), Averie Jane Gundy in the1600 (6:11.92), Olivia Gundy in the triple jump and the 3200 relay finished first.
