The first meet for McAdams track will be the Velma Jackson Invitational March 23. At the 1A state meet last year, the boys team finished tied for ninth with 19 points, and the girls tied for 16th with 11 points.
The boys team will be led by freshman Jamarquse Spivey, who was first in the 200 and third in the 100 at the 2022 state meet, accounting for 16 of the Bulldogs’ 19 points. He will run the 100 and 200 and the 400 and 800 relays.
Others that coach Mitchell Myer is counting on include Kurt Mitchell, Christopher Harmon, Jamar Teague, Marcus Ball, Ja’Myran Cross and Zyion Christian.
Mitchell finished sixth in the 300 hurdles at last year’s state meet. He will be competing in that event, along with the long jump and triple jump. Harmon will be in the 300 hurdles, the 400 and 1600 relay.
Teague will be in the long jump, high jump and 800, Ball the 100 and 400 hurdles, Cross the 200 and 800 relay and Christian the triple jump and 800 relay.
Girls coach Alice Ivy expected junior Ameri Gadson to lead the team, competing in the long jump, high jump and 800 hurdles, but she probably will be unavailable due to a knee injury suffered in basketball. She was fifth at last year’s state meet in the high jump.
Kenady Cross, new to the team, will compete in the 100, 400 relay, and possibly the high jump. “In practice, she is leading the pack,” Ivy said.
Others include Samaria Evans and Bryia Harmon in the shot put and discus, Taliah Gadson in the 200, 400 relay and 800 relay and Kiyah Harmon in the high jump and long jump. Bryia Harmon was fourth in the shot put at the state meet last year.
