On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the West Civic Club met at 2:00 p.m. for the monthly meeting. There were nine members present. Jean Aldridge called the meeting to order and led in the prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
In old business, Jean noted that the tulip project was complete and the Christmas tree lighting in front of the club building was successful.
In new business, plans were discussed for the appreciation luncheon for town employees to take place in February or March. Jolynn White will be working on decorations in front of the club building and will add an America 250 Mississippi banner.
Jolynn White, West Civic Club member, spoke on The America 250 Mississippi celebration. She serves on a committee that plans and orchestrates events to celebrate the 250th year anniversary. Jolynn led members in a fun game of American history trivia. Club member, Suzanne Bowie was awarded a bottle of White’s Wild Local Honey for the most correct answers. Member, Claudette Hathcock won an America 250 flag and all members received bookmarks and celebration info cards. Jolynn did a wonderful job educating everyone on various grants, initiatives and activities that will take place for the America 250 Mississippi celebration. She encouraged all to keep up with events by going to the website: America250.ms.
Carol Black, January host, served Dolly Pardon cake in honor of Dolly’s 80th birthday. Jean passed out plant cuttings of Donkey’s Ear and challenged members to nurture their growth, offering a prize to the tallest plant at our May meeting.
Members read the club Collect together and were dismissed. The next meeting will be on February 25th at 2:00 p.m.
