The Ethel Tigers picked up a nice win last week over the Sebastopol Bobcats. The Tigers will now travel to Rolling Fork, to face off against South Delta in the first round of playoffs. The Tigers picked up a nice 32-12 win on Thursday.
The Tigers fell behind early and trailed 6-0 after one quarter. Jake Newman then tied it with a three yard run in the second quarter. The Tigers scored twice more unanswered in the half to take a 20-6 halftime lead. Talon Ray scored on a four yard touchdown run, while Zantavious Clark scored from seven yards out. In the third quarter, Matthew Arnold intercepted a pass and returned it 64 yards for a touchdown, making it a 26-6 game. The Bobcats scored again in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers had an answer as Clark broke free for a 52 yard touchdown run.
Clark led rushing with 136 yards and two touchdowns. Newman threw for 90 yards. Kameron Fortenberry led with 12 tackles on defense, while three different Tigers came up with interceptions, Arnold, May, and Cameron Farmer.
Head Coach Junior Graham said it was a solid effort on both sides of the ball.
“I thought our kids answered the bell once again after a slow start,” Graham said, “I thought our kids played very well.” Graham liked how his team put pressure on the quarterback all night. The Tigers are now preparing for South Delta. “They have a lot more speed than us,” Graham said, “Their quarterback might be as good as we’ve played all season.” The Tigers are ready to get started in the playoffs. “This is where they wanted to be,” Graham said, "For the first time, it’s win or go home.”
