On Saturday, March 22, 2025, at approximately 2:19 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a multi-vehicle fatal crash on Highway 49W in Sunflower County.
A 2000 Mack RD6 Truck driven by 49-year-old Johnny Holmes of Belzoni, Mississippi, traveled north on Highway 49W. A 2002 Kawasaki 9R motorcycle driven by 42-year-old Kionchez Gibson of Memphis, Tennessee, traveling north on Highway 49W, collided with the rear of the Mack truck. A 2024 Kawasaki EX5 motorcycle driven by 28-year-old Caitlin Dotson of Southaven, Mississippi, traveling north on Highway 49W, collided with the ditch. Kionchez Gibson received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene. Caitlin Dotson was airlifted to a Jackson hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
