Students from the Kosciusko High School, under the direction of Angel Chennault, presented the “Old City Cemetery Tour” Friday night April 28.
This annual event is sponsored by the Kosciusko Attala Historical Society. Students presented speeches written and researched by Terry Jones.
Attendees were guided along the paved roads of the cemetery and entertained at fourteen different stations by speakers in period costumes. Many of the graves, David Locket Brown, Samuel Jackson, Madison Boswell, Judge Henry Clay Niles, and Laura Kelly were pointed out to participants. Laura Kelly invited all to her grave as she told her story.
As the guides walked with groups, they were led to the various speakers. Guests were welcomed at the first station by Ra’Maya Brown. Other speakers were: Dr. and Mrs. Lamar Bailey—Jeremy Gibson and Kendall Chunn; Mr. and Mrs. Madison Boswell—Branden Allen and Maggie Steed; Mr. and Mrs. David Lockett Brown—Josh Gibson and Kayla Anderson; Professor and Mrs. Clarence Cooper—Cam Smith and Jamiya Sharp; Mr. and Mrs. David Glass—Konner Denley and Alyssa Oakes; Mr. and Mrs. Z.O. Graham—Jon Gant and Karianne Amis; Rev. and Mrs. Erskin Jackson—Eli Kemp and Reid Hutchison; Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Jackson—William Chrestman and Alex Swilley; Laura Kelly—Kayden Tyler; Judge Henry Clay Niles—Erik Frazure; Joyce Sanders—Alli Sparks; Spirit of the Children—Akeelah Hunt, Grayson Blaylock, and Sara Beth Moore. As they left the cemetery, Jaion Hightower wished them well and told them to come back to walk among the stones and perhaps they again would hear the voices from the graves.
