A time of remembering and visiting will highlight activities of the Kosciusko version of the Mississippi Bicentennial Celebration at Barrister’s Hall this Friday.
Mayor Jimmy Cockroft will welcome guests at 6 p.m., and Rev. Lee Carson of First Baptist M.B. Church will offer an opening prayer.
From 6 to 8 p.m., a sense of homecoming and community is expected as many former residents gather to mingle and visit.
G.G. Holmes with the Kosciusko Attala Partnership said the event will offer an opportunity for those who have “made a name for themselves” to visit with community residents.
A skit highlighting town history will be presented by Kosciusko High School drama class.
Former residents who plan to attend are Richard Adkerson, Gary Barnette, John Burk, Clarence Harmon, Stanley and Beth Hartness, Kaye Monroe Johnson, Wayne Jones, James Meredith, Jeffrey Moore, Topher Payne and Kenneth Townsend.
Local residents Jewette Battles, Charlie Davis, Betty Ferguson, Taft Hawthorne, Henry and Terry Jones and Offie Oakes are also expected to participate.
Items are being collected for a time capsule which will be placed at Redbud Springs Park. A redbud tree will also be planted in the park to commemorate the celebration.
“The Tree” will be presented by Donna Yowell, executive director of the Mississippi Urban Forest Council.
