Attala County has reported its first COVID-19 death, apparently a Caucasian patient in a local long-term care facility, according to data released by the Mississippi Department of Health today. The data now indicates that two local long-term care facilities have outbreaks of one or more cases each in the county. Previously, the only local long-term care facility outbreak was at the Attala County Nursing Center. In total, long-term care facility outbreaks in the county rose from 26 to 35 since the prior 24-hour reporting period. Even one case is reported as an outbreak, and could be among patients or staff.
Overall, there are 117 reported cases in Attala County since the state started reporting data. The data, which includes all cases reported before 6 p.m. last night, indicates there are 69 Black or African-American cases, 33 Caucasian cases, four cases listed as Other, and 11 cases where racial information is not yet available in Attala County. Mississippi is now posting 7,441 total cases and 291 deaths state-wide.
