Appointed Circuit Court Judge George M. Mitchell, Jr. secured his first full-term in District Five last week.
Mitchell won 60 percent of the vote by the close of the polls, narrowly defeating his opponent Doug Crosby of Kosciusko. Crosby did win Attala County with 69 percent of the vote.
Mitchell has served as a Circuit Court Judge for the Fifth District since January when he was appointed by Gov. Phil Bryant upon the retirement of Judge Clarence Morgan, III.
The district includes Attala, Carroll, Choctaw, Grenada, Montgomery, Webster and Winston counties.
Mitchell previously served as assistant district attorney for four years and over 20 years as the county persecutor of Webster County and a city prosecutor.
