The Kosciusko High School cross-country team is set to open the 2020 season on Sept. 12 in the French Camp Invitational.
The Whippets will compete in eight meats, including the MHSAA State Championship meet set for Nov. 2.
There are eight meets in all with KHS traveling to Meridian for the Northeast Lauderdale Invitational on Sept. 19 and taking part in the Arrow invitational in Clinton on Sept. 26 and the Mississippi College Invitational in Clinton on Oct. 3.
On Oct. 10, the Whippets will compete in the Madison XC Festival before taking part in the French Camp Classic on Oct. 17. The date and location fo the district meet has not been released.

HCC FALL SOFTBALL LEAGUE
Holmes Community College head softball coach Trae Embry has announced the dates of the 2020 Fall League for 8th-12th graders which will consist of a showcase/evaluation process with games to follow. The league will begin on Oct. 5 with the showcase and evaluation. After that time, players involved will be divided into teams and games will be played on Monday and Thursday nights through Oct. 29.
The cost per participant is $125. All players must have a current physical and have a complete liability waiver and registration form. MAIS KICKS OFF FRIDAY
The first regular season high school football games of the 2020 season in Mississippi are set to be played on Friday night.
There are four MAIS games on tap, with Central Holmes Christian School visiting Park Place, Wayne Academy hosting Natchez Cathedral, Hillcrest Christian visiting Amite School and Benton Academy hosting Porter’s Chapel.
There are a couple of jamborees set for Thursday, with Tri-County Academy hosting an eight-team event that begins at 3:30 p.m. and is slated for the last of the eight match-ups to begin at 7 p.m. Schools participating in the event are Clinton Christian, Carroll Academy, Canton Academy, Leake Academy, Central Hinds Academy, Bayou Academy, East Rankin Academy and Tri-County Academy.

OLE MISS LANDS HOKIE TRANSFER
On Monday, Ole Miss head softball coach Jamie Trachsel announced the addition of Virginia Tech transfer Maddi Banks, a two-year starter for the Hokies at various positions.
Banks, who will have three years of eligibility remaining, started 75 of 83 games the last two seasons for the Hokies, with 73 of those starts coming in the infield. The Bettendorf, Iowa, native was a key feature in a Virginia Tech squad that finished the 2020 season ranked No. 16 after coming in at No. 23 in the final NFCA Poll of 2019.
After establishing herself as a regular starter as a freshman, Banks had a breakthrough campaign in the shortened 2020 season. She ranked fifth on the team with a .340 batting average, registering 6 extra base knocks among her 18 total hits with three home runs, a pair of doubles and a triple. Banks proved to be a run producer for the Hokies, scoring 19 times and driving home nine more runs.
