The Kosciusko Whippet baseball team moved to 24-4 on the year after sweeping Senatobia by scores of 10-4 and 6-5. The first game was moved up to last Thursday in an attempt to beat the rain, but game two was washed out both Friday and Saturday in Senatobia. Game two was finally played on Monday and the Whippets hung on for the win and the sweep.
In last Thursday night’s contest Jerod Meggs got the start and win for the Whippets, yielding four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four in 5.2 innings pitched. Ethan Gowan pitched the final 1.1 innings where he allowed no runs, hits or walks while striking out three. The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Jeremy Deason with two singles, a double, two runs scored and an RBI; Clark Dean with two RBI; Logan Fancher with a single and one run scored; Brandon Black with one run scored; Meggs with one run scored; Micah Parker with a single and two RBI; Jatavious Herron with a single, two runs scored and an RBI; Rusty Atkinson with a run scored; Ryan Atkinson with a single and one run scored and Walker Yuille with a triple and an RBI.
In game two on Monday night, Deason got the start and win, allowing four runs on three hits and a walk while striking out five in 4.1 innings. Bryce Oakes got the save in 2.2 innings of work, allowing a run on a hit while striking out one hitter. The leading hitters for the Whippets were Deason with two singles, a double, one run scored and an RBI; Dean with two singles, one run scored and an RBI; Fancher with an RBI; Chase Morgan with a double and a run scored; Meggs with a run scored; Parker with an RBI and Herron with a single.
The Whippets will host Itawamba AHS (16-12, 7-3 in Region 1-4A) on Friday night at 7 p.m. and will travel to Fulton on Saturday for game two. Game three, if necessary, will be played back in Kosciusko on Monday night.
