The Kosciusko athletic program will begin the new school year with a number of different faces in new roles, as a handful of coaches have been added to the staff.
Lauren Peresich has added another head-coaching position to her resume. Peresich, who also serves as the Whippets' tennis coach, will lead Kosciusko's first-ever volleyball team this fall. Peresich vacated her position as an assistant girls basketball coach.
“Anytime you have someone on your staff who is willing and capable of taking over a spot, that's always something that helps us out by not having to find a teaching position," Kosciusko athletic director Macy Wilbanks said. "We were able to do that, which will take her out of basketball because that's going to be a lot for her to do all three of those."
Jamario Winters will take over for Peresich as the Lady Whippets' basketball assistant coach. Winters, an assistant football coach, previously helped coach the girls' basketball program as a volunteer.
Derrik Boland was approved by the school district board to fill the baseball head coaching vacancy. Boland comes to Kosciusko from Huntington College (Alabama), where he worked as a pitching coach and head recruiter. Boland, a Nettleton High School graduate, played and coached at Millsaps College.
"We're really excited to get him in here," Wilbanks said. "He's should be here at the start of July, and he'll do his tryouts for the kids coming in and moving up from junior high to high school, mostly. He's going to get going as quickly as possible."
Kosciusko boys basketball coach Eleazarus Greenleaf has added boys junior high head basketball coach to his list of titles. Greenleaf replaces former boys junior high head coach Shelby Kuhn.
