The Kosciusko Whippets and Lady Whippets recently upped their overall records to 13-3 and 10-6 respectively with two tournament wins and one tournament loss over the last week in the East Webster Invitational.
The Whippets, who are ranked No. 8 in MHSAA Class 4A by Magnolia Hoops, defeated Victory Christian 72-45 and were led by Johnny Forrest with 19 points, five assists and three steals. Kadarius Banks had 13 points and four assists in the contest as well.
In the second game of the tourney, the Whippets defeated Independence 59-44 behind the Forrest 17 points, four assists and four steals while Stefan Harmon scored 23 points with three steals and 10 boards.
The Whippets then fell to the host team East Webster 60-40 to drop their overall record to 13-3. Harmon was the leading scorer in the contest with 11 points and grabbed nine boards as well. Calvin Banks scored 10 points with four steals while JaQuan Williams had seven rebounds and three steals.
The Lady Whippets dropped their first contest of the tourney 42-34 to Baldwyn after leading 18-17 at the half. Feria Mays led the Whippets with 10 points, 11 boards and four assists while Mahogany Perteet had 10 points and Indya Haynes had 10 points and six boards.
The Lady Whippets jumped back on the winning track with a 44-37 win over Aberdeen with Mays leading the way with 18 points. In their final game of the tournament the Lady Whippets defeated J.Z. George 48-35. Ameria Riley led the way with 14 points, six boards and two steals while Mays scored 18 points to help move the Lady Whippets to 10-6 overall.
Both teams will be back at home on Friday night to start Region 4-4A play against the Louisville Wildcats at 6 p.m.
