The Kosciusko Whippet baseball team improved to 6-1 on the year with wins over Holmes County, Winona and West Point while dropping one to Choctaw County on Friday night.
In last Thursday night’s 21-0 three-inning defeat of the Holmes Central Jaguars Clark Dean got the start and the win by pitching one inning and striking out three. Chase Morgan pitched an inning and struck out three and Jatavious Herron pitched the final inning striking out the side as well.
The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Jeremy Deason with a double and a single and three runs scored; Dean with a single, two runs scored and three RBI; Logan Fancher with a double, three runs scored and one RBI; Brandon Black with one run scored; Morgan with a single, three runs scored and one RBI; Jerod Meggs with two runs scored and an RBI; Loftin Price with a single, two runs scored and four RBI; Herron with a double and a single with one run scored and three RBI; Ryan Atkinson with a double, one run scored and two RBI and Walker Yuille with a double and a single with three runs scored and two RBI.
In Friday’s 5-3 setback to the Choctaw County Chargers Meggs got the start for the Whippets and gave up three runs (none earned) on no hits and five walks while striking out seven. Bryce Oakes pitched the final two innings allowing two earned runs on two hits and one walk while striking out two.
The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Dean with a scored run; Morgan with a double, one run scored and one RBI; Meggs with an RBI; Price with a single and Ryan Atkinson with a double and a run scored.
On Friday night the Whippets sent Jeremy Deason to the mound in Kosy’s 6-3 win over Winona. Deason pitched seven complete, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out eight hitters. The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Deason with a single and one run scored; Dean with a single and one RBI; Fancher with an RBI; Morgan with a run scored and an RBI; Meggs with a single; Micah Parker with two runs scored; Herron with one run scored; Atkinson with one run scored and Yuille with a single.
The Whippets hosted West Point on Saturday and defeated the Green Wave 5-3 with Micah Parker drawing the start. Parker pitched five innings, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three. Ethan Gowan pitched the final two innings and yielded no runs on two hits and one walk. The offensive leaders for Kosy were Dean with a single, one run scored and one RBI; Fancher with one run scored; Morgan with two singles and a double with one run scored and one RBI; Meggs with a single and one run scored with one RBI and Herron with one run scored.
The Whippets travel to West Point on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game and will be participating in the Spring Break Tourney at Sykes Park in Meridian on Tuesday. They will then travel to Pearl on Thursday for a 7 p.m. contest and then Newton County on Friday for a 12 p.m. contest.
