Kosciusko split a wild doubleheader in division action with Louisville last week, and the Whippets also took big wins over Morton and Newton County.
After opening the week with a 13-3 win over Morton last Monday, the Whippets split with Louisville – winning 8-6 after falling 11-10. On Saturday, seven Whippets combined on a shutout in a 2-0 win over Newton County.
That lifted Kosciusko to 10-8 overall this season. The Whippets were scheduled to visit New Hope Tuesday of this week, then go to West Point Thursday.
They will host New Hope Friday and are scheduled to take on both Morton and Northeast Lauderdale Saturday at Morton.
Next week, barring any schedule makeups, Kosy is scheduled to wrap up the regular season by going to Magee on Monday (April 16) and hosting Holmes County on Tuesday (April 17).
Last Monday, the Whippets scored in every inning but the second in a rout-shortened victory over Morton. Kosy was down 3-1 after two innings but went ahead for good with four runs in the bottom of the third.
Chase Morgan had two hits and two runs and Brandon Black had two singles and a run scored to lead the way.
Evan Scott doubled and drove in two runs; Justin Nunn doubled, scored and drove in a run; Micah Parker singled, scored and had an RBI; Eldarius Roby scored three times; Jon Deason had two runs and two RBIs; Hunter Blaylock, River Burrell and Walker Hill all scored once.
Six pitchers threw for the Whippets, with Roby getting the win.
In their first matchup with Louisville, Kosciusko led 9-2 after four innings before the Wildcats scored nine times in the fifth.
The Whippets had six extra-base hits, with Morgan getting a single, double and two runs to lead the way.
Ethan Gowan had two hits and an RBI; Nunn, Walker Yuille and Logan Fancher both had a double, a run and an RBI; Parker doubled and drove in two runs;
Clark Dean doubled and scored; Black singled, scored three times and had one RBI; Scott singled and had one RBI; Lucas Price singled; Will Cook scored once.
Nolen Yuille took the loss as one of four Kosy pitchers.
The Whippets rebounded with an 8-6 win over Louisville, as Gowan was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs and Morgan had two hits and two RBIs.
Nunn doubled, scored and drove in a pair; Parker singled and drove in one; Deason and Walker Yuille both singled; Black and Cook scored twice each; Burrell scored once.
Morgan was one of six pitchers and got the win.
Saturday, Dean, Roby, Nolen Yuille, Deason, Gowan, Tyler Vancise and Morgan all threw and limited Newton County to five hits while striking out four in the shutout.
Black had two hits for the Whippets, while Gowan and Parker both singled and scored. Dean singled and drove in one, while Walker Yuille had the team’s other hit.
