The Durant Lady Tigers advanced to the Final Four of the MHSAA Class 1A State Tournament Thursday morning at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
Durant topped Ray Brooks 67-47 in the quarterfinal game Thursday morning and will face Pine Grove in a Class 1A semifinal at 9 a.m. Monday morning.
The Lady Tigers took the lead quickly with a hot start from beyond the arch to grab a 23-10 lead with 4:45 left until halftime. Ray Brooks shrunk the Durant lead to 10 at the break, but a 16-14 spread in the third quarter and a 24-16 fourth would secure the victory for the Lady Tigers.
A Durant victory Monday morning would advance the Lady Tigers to the state championship game on March 9 at 1 p.m. in the Mississippi Coliseum.
Lady Bulldogs rally comes up short
The McAdams Lady Bulldogs rally came up short in a Class 1A State Quarterfinal Thursday afternoon with a 58-54 loss to Shaw at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
Shaw picked up an early lead in the second quarter with a 34-29 lead at halftime. The Lady Hawks expanded the lead in the third quarter and into the fourth, stretching their lead to 45-37 midway through the fourth. McAdams came within a bucket in the final minute, but were unable to get over the hump as Shaw grabbed the victory.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the season with a 23-7 overall record and a 7-2 district record.
