The French Camp Panthers improved their season record to 7-10 on the year after winning two and dropping one to Lumberton in the first round of the MHSAA Class 1A North Playoffs. The Panthers won game one on Friday in French Camp by a score of 3-2. They lost game two on Saturday at Lumberton 6-1 and clinched the series on Monday night back at home with a 5-3 win.
In game one on Friday night the Panthers sent Zach Avent to the mound where he pitched seven complete, yielding only two runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks while striking out four. The offensive leaders for the Panthers were Logan Burchfield with a run scored; Clayton Leathers with three singles, two runs scored and an RBI; Zach Gilmer with an RBI and Avent with a single.
On Saturday down in Lumberton, Fletcher Travis got the start and pitched 6.1 innings, allowing six runs (one earned), on six hits and four walks while striking out four. Colin Perry pitched the final .2 of an inning and yielded no hits or runs while striking out one. The offensive leaders for the Panthers were Avent with a single and an RBI; John Weeks with a single and Perry with two singles and a run scored.
In the series clinching win on Monday night in French Camp, Weeks got the start and pitched seven complete, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and five walks while striking out seven. The offensive leaders for the Panthers were Holman Edwards with two RBI; Leathers with two singles; Javen Anderson with a run scored and an RBI; Travis with two singles and two RBI; Seth Box with a single and one run scored and Perry with three singles and three runs scored.
The Panthers will travel to Bogue Chitto (13-12, 3-1 in Region 7-1A) on Friday for a 7 p.m. contest and will be back in French Camp on Saturday for game two of the best-of-three series. Game three, if necessary, will be back in Bogue Chitto on Monday.
