The Durant Lady Tigers (21-6) had their season come to an end at the hands of Pine Grove (33-3) last Thursday night at Jackson State University. The Lady Tigers were playing Pine Grove in the quarterfinals with a chance to advance into the semifinals against East Marion this past Monday, but fell in a heartbreaker 44-43.
The Lady Tigers fell behind 13-7 after one quarter of play and would trail 24-21 at the half. Durant tied up the contest at 32-32 in the third quarter but were outscored 12-11 in the fourth, giving Pine Grove a narrow one-point win.
The leaders for the Lady Tigers were Tamara Riley with 29 points, seven rebounds and four steals; Tameri Myers with two points, seven rebounds and three steals; Dekia Mitchell with 10 points, four rebounds and one steals and Kayla Davis with 10 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers were 8-of-27 from the floor in the first half and 6-of-22 from the floor in the second half for a game total of 27 percent and were 0-for-9 on three-pointers. Durant shot 68 percent from the free throw line, sinking 15-of-22 from the charity stripe. Pine Grove shot 35 percent from the floor and hit 2-of-9 three pointers while sinking 16-of-26 free throws. Pine Grove advanced to play East Marion in the semifinals, defeating East Marion 62-35 to earn a berth into the MHSAA Class 1A State Championship against McAdams on Thursday at 1 p.m.
