The Kosciusko High School boys basketball program went 2-1 last week in early season action.
On Nov. 3, the Whippets defeated Amanda Elzy 72-71 at the Holmes Community College Classic. Jaquan Hall scored a team-high 20 points.
Omarion Tobbins and Terry Skinner scored 13 points each, while Ocorya Forrest added 12 points.
“We’re still trying to jell, and as football season is over, trying to work the football players in because we only had them for a limited time, as far as practice goes,” Kosciusko coach Eleazarus Greenleaf said. “We’re trying to work everyone in and get the system running. I think once everyone jells, we’ll be a pretty good basketball team.”
Kosciusko offense exploded for a 40-point road win last Tuesday as the Whippets earned a 71-31 win at Forest. Three Whippet players tallied double-digit scoring efforts. Ellis Armon, Antonio Harmon and Ocorya Forrest each tallied 10 points.
Kosciusko High School was the host for the Kosciusko Shootout on Saturday, where veterans of the United States Armed Forces were recognized and treated to free admission. The Whippets were able to cut their deficit to seven by the end of the third period, but Greenwood ultimately pulled out a 71-70 victory. Jaquan Hall and Terry Skinner led the Whippets with 18 points apiece.
Kosciusko travels to Winona this week for the three-day J.Z. George Tournament, where the Whippets will face Winona, J.Z. George and Ethel.
“We have three games going next week at the J.Z. George Tournament,” Greenleaf said. “I think if we come in this week and practice hard – and the football players will catch up more to what we’re trying to do – I think we’ll have a good week and (have) a really good chance to win that tournament. As the year goes on, we’ll get better and better.”
