The Kosciusko Whippets (1-7, 0-3) travel to Carthage on Friday night to take on the Leake Central Gators (3-6, 0-3) in a Region 4-4A contest that has both teams looking for their first region wins of the season. The Whippets are 4-1 over the last five years in the series with the last Leake Central win coming in 2011, a 32-29 overtime win for the Gators. The Whippets defeated the Gators 32-7 in their last matchup in 2015.
The Whippets fell to Caledonia last week by a score of 31-14 while Leake Central fell to the Houston Hilltoppers 42-14.
The Gators are 29-of-93 through the air on the season for 463 yards with six touchdowns and eight interceptions. Leake Central has gained 1676 yards on the ground on 353 carries with 12 touchdowns. In their last contest this past Friday night, the Gators fell 42-14 to the Houston Hilltoppers, who are tied for first-place in Region 4-4A.
Defensively, the Gators have amassed 58 TFL’s on the year with three total sacks while intercepting 10 passes and recovering nine fumbles. Leake Central has also blocked two punts and two field goals on the year as well.
The Gators have scored 139 total points on the year while giving up 211 and the Whippets have scored 113 points on the year while giving up 221 total points. The Whippets have been outscored in region play 93-29 while the Gators have been outscored 125-38.
