The Kosciusko Whippets traveled to Columbus last Saturday to play Minor (Ala.) during the Joe Horn Classic. And for two-and-a-half quarters, Kosciusko appeared to be on its way to a resounding victory.
But a late-game Kosciusko collapse saw Minor erase a 20-point halftime deficit and earn a 74-70 win over the Whippets.
“Everything that could have went wrong in the ball game went wrong,” Kosciusko coach Eleazarus Greenleaf said. “In the third quarter, it seems like the wheels fell off. We let them back in and they took the lead. We fought hard in the fourth and just came up a little bit short. I think coming out of halftime and in the third quarter, we came out so relaxed and flat that it enabled them to get back into the game.”
O’Corrya Forrest led the Whippets with 24 points, and he added two rebounds. Calvin Banks tallied 20 points, five rebounds and three assists. Antonio Harmon finished with 12 points, six rebounds, two steals and one block.
Kosciusko returns to play on Jan. 4 when it hosts Louisville.
