The Lady Whippets had a bye week for the first round of the playoffs, but that did not prevent them from preparing for their second-round series.
Kosciusko played three contests last week and went undefeated to up its record to 27-1.
The Lady Whippets opened their postseason with a 20-7 win at Senatobia on Monday. Game 2 (and Game 3 if necessary) was set to be played in Kosciusko on Tuesday
“We had a really good week with three wins against West Lauderdale and Germantown,” Kosciusko softball coach Tony Terry said. “I was really pleased with the effort. The pitchers were really lights out. I think that gives us momentum leading into the playoffs against a really good Senatobia team.”
The Lady Whippets swept West Lauderdale in a doubleheader last Tuesday by scores of 6-0 and 2-0.
In Game 1, three Kosciusko hitters churned out multi-hit efforts. Kelly Hood, Josie Meggs and Emma Rush tallied three hits apiece. Hood scored a game-high three runs.
Katie Mitchell went the distance, going seven innings, striking out seven and yielding five hits.
Maddy Gilmore got the start in Game 2 and perplexed the Lady Knights to the tune of 10 strikeouts and just three hits. Kosciusko cruised in a 2-0 win.
Laken Milner posted two singles, while Hood finished with a triple.
Kosciusko capped its regular season with an 8-2 win against Germantown last Wednesday. Mitchell and Gilmore shared time in the circle and Mitchell picked up the win. She went four innings and struck out two, while Gilmore pitched for three innings and fanned five.
