Kosciusko junior Mike Rimmer is headed to the Mississippi High School Activities Association State Powerlifting Meet after finishing as the MHSAA Class 4A North State runner-up in the super-heavyweight division.
Rimmer placed second in his division with a total of 1,050 pounds., in the North State meet earlier this month at Pontotoc.
He will now participate in the State Powerlifting Meet, which is slated for April 14 at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson. Rimmer had a best squat of 450 lbs., a bench press of 250 lbs. and a dead lift of 350 lbs. to finish second behind Dalton Cantrell of Caledonia.
Four other Whippets placed in the Class 4A North State Meet, which was won by Pontotoc. The host Warriors ran away with the title with 63 points, while Corinth finished second with 39 points. Kosciusko was tied for sixth with nine total points.
In addition to Rimmer’s North State runnerup showing, Kosciusko sophomore Jacob Davide was fourth in the 123-pound weight class with a total of 495 lbs.
Senior Jaquarius Thomas was fourth in the 181-pound weight division with a total of 1,000 lbs; sophomore Kentrell Teague was sixth in the 220-pound weight class with a total of 1,055 lbs; and senior Paul Wood was seventh in the 275-pound weight classification with a total of 960 lbs.
Each of the Whippets qualified for North State by placing in the Region 2-4A Meet held earlier this year.
