Kosciusko girls ran away with the championship of last week’s Region 2-4A Track and Field Meet, which was also hosted by Kosy.
The Lady Whippets totaled 154 points to easily outdistance division rival and second-place finisher Louisville, which had 104 points. There were more than 15 schools represented.
Kosciusko boys finished fifth overall in the region meet.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for the MHSAA Class 4A North State meet, which will be held Saturday at Tishomingo County High School.
Kosciusko girls qualified in a total of 19 events, while the boys qualified in six events.
Three of those qualifiers brought home individual region titles for Kosciusko: Samia Veasy won the pole vault with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches; Mikhayla
Vaughn won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 3.5 inches; the 4x800m relay team was first in a time of 12 minutes, 6 seconds.
Markayla McBride was third in the 1600m run with a time of 7:35; while Macy Arnold (17:15) and Mackenzie Alford (17:42) were second and third, respectively, in the 3200m run.
Tyneria Cross was second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.48 seconds, while Amiyah Greer was third in the 300m hurdles with a time of 56.62 seconds.
Kosy’s 4x200m relay team was third in 1:53.57 and the 4x100m relay team was fourth in 52.56.
Vaughn was second in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches; Cross was third at 4 feet, 8 inches; Deasia Brown was fourth at 4 feet, 4 inches.
Diamond Rayford was third in the long jump at 14-3; Vaughn was third in the triple jump at 30-11.5; Kaleb Sallis was second in the pole vault at 6 feet; Vaughn was third in the pole vault at 5 feet; Kenyatta Allen was second in the discus at 89 feet, 4 inches; Allen was second in the shot put at 30 feet, 5 inches.
Kosciusko boys also won three individual region titles.
Devonte Ellis was first in the 100m dash with a time of 10.82 seconds; Calvin Banks was first in the triple jump at 40 feet, 5 inches; Melvin Kern was first in the pole vault at 5 feet.
Other North State qualifiers for the Whippets included E’Shavious Mays, who was second in the 400m run with a time of 54.39 seconds; the 4x100m relay team which was third in 44.69 seconds; and the 4x200m relay team which was second in 1:30.79.
