The Kosciusko girls soccer team defeated Winona 11-0 on Friday, and defeated Ridgeland 3-0 on Saturday.
Mary Patton Henderson (3), Raven Pernell (2), Anna Caroline Pickle (2), Lanna Nunley (3) and Presley Fulgham scored goals for the Lady Whippets in the Winona win.
Anna Catherine Cheek recorded two goals, while Anna Carolina Pickle tallied Kosciusko’s third goal against 5A classification Ridgeland.
“They’ve really done a good job of just listening to what we’ve been preaching of trying to get the ball to our outside and then trying to get it back in with crosses and stuff like that,” Kosciusko coach Greg Cooper said. “It came together Friday, and it continued on Saturday. A couple of good crosses that led to open people, and we were able to finish them.”
The Lady Whippets improved to 6-4 this season and host Raymond on Thursday.
BOYS
The Whippets (4-6) split a pair of contests with Winona and Ridgeland last week.
Alfredo Marin, Dan Lindsay (3), Billy Paul Russell (2) and Thomas Sims (3) provided the offense as Kosciusko defeated Winona 9-1 on Friday.
Ridgeland earned a 4-1 win on Saturday. Marin scored the Whippets’ lone goal. Kosciusko and Ridgeland were tied 1-1 at the end of the first half.
“With (the boys) getting the ball and moving the ball and just having faith in themselves (is a key),” said Cooper, who also coaches the Kosciusko boys. “Trust yourself, trust your teammate is a big thing we preach. It started to come together against Winona. They looked really good. Against Ridgeland, that was a good, physical game.”
