Kosciusko High School golf team is vying for a berth in the upcoming MHSAA Class 4A State Tournament.
The Whippets, under the direction of coach Logan Cheek, have been busy over the past couple of weeks – competing in events in Louisville, Kosciusko and Philadelphia.
After shooting a team total of 347 at Louisville Country Club the previous week, the Whippets fired a 362 while hosting the Kosciusko Invitational on Tuesday.
Nanih Waiya’s Jake Kight earned medalist honors with a 71 to help the Warriors finish first, while Pearl was second and Kosciusko third in the team standings.
Jett Crosby shot an 80 to lead the Whippets, while Jacob Gibson shot an 87 and Carter Jones a 94. Garrett Dunn fired a 101 and Britt Grace shot a 111.
On Thursday, the Whippets finished third overall in an event at Philadelphia Country Club.
This time, Crosby was the medalist – earning top honors for the Whippets by shooting a 79. Kosciusko shot 361 as a team.
Gibson shot a 90, Garrett Dunn was next with a 95, Jones shot a 97 and Ethan Dunn fired a 104.
Next up for the Whippets is district competition, when they battle West Lauderdale and Northeast Lauderdale at Briarwood Country Club near Meridian.
Kosciusko will need to shoot a team score of 375 or better in order to qualify for state.
