The administration of Kosciusko High School would like to have a new head football coach in place as soon as possible, hopefully no later than the beginning of spring football practice.
Kosciusko director of athletics Macy Wilbanks said the administration is still discussing exactly what that process for hiring a new coach will be. She did confirm they were re-looking at the original six finalists that rose to the top during the previous search that led to the job being accepted by Pearl High School offensive coordinator Justin Hunter.
Hunter was announced as the KHS head coach and approved by the school board in January, but confirmed to Wilbanks last Monday that he would not be coming to Kosciusko.
Later in the week it was officially announced that he would become the head football coach at Pearl High School. That job came open when longtime head coach John Perry — also a former head coach at Kosciusko — was resigning to take a job in Missouri.
Hunter quickly became a candidate for the Pearl job once it became vacant. He had never signed a contract with Kosciusko High School.
“We haven’t made any big decisions (as to the process),” Wilbanks aid. “I thought we would have something quickly, but we have had a few delays and are moving through some things.”
The job came open in December when head coach Kelly Causey was removed from the position after three years as head coach of the Whippets.
