In response to the looming threat of dangerous cold and wintry precipitation, the Attala County School District has announced the closure of all its schools on Tuesday, with a delayed start of 10 am on Wednesday.
Additionally, Holmes Community College has taken precautionary measures, deciding to close all its locations on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
The decision to close schools and delay operations is in consideration of the safety of students, faculty, and staff as the inclement weather is expected to persist until Wednesday. With temperatures plummeting to dangerous cold levels, authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has issued a statement advising families to be prepared for the severe weather conditions. They recommend having a disaster go-kit at home and in vehicles, especially for those who must travel during this period.
While schools will remain closed on Tuesday, the delayed start on Wednesday aims to allow for improved conditions and safer travel for students and staff. Holmes Community College has announced that although classes will not meet on Tuesday, staff will be working virtually to ensure the continuity of administrative functions.
Local residents are urged to stay informed about the weather updates and adhere to safety guidelines provided by authorities
home and in their vehicle if they must travel.
