I am a deeply-rooted Southern woman and I carry a 38 Special in my car. I am a card-carrying member of the NRA.
Yes, I am from Mississippi and I uphold my second amendment rights.
I have read so many criticisms against Mississippi because we can carry guns in our cars without a concealed license. They say we are red-necks, as if this is a word that means ignorant. Well, guess what?
I am proud to be a Mississippi Redneck. I have a child who is a true gun aficionado, and he is so educated in the edicts and laws of gun regulations that I have an inside tract to all knowledge of said weapons. Gun control seems to be the topic of the presidential race this year. It is one of the very most debated subjects.
I have read articles from people for it and people against it. Do we have any common sense anymore? Do I want a severely depressed or drug addict to carry a gun? NO! Is this the reason for the five-day waiting period after buying a gun? YES! A background check is supposed to be made on the purchaser of the gun.
A person cannot legally buy machine guns, 50-caliber rifles or assault rifles, and he can only buy one gun at a time.
We cannot purchase a rifle with less than a 16-inch barrel or a shotgun with less than an 18-inch barrel, and not even a toy pistol that fires or makes an explosion. My five-year-old grandson was shooting a cap pistol here one day this week, and it shot some fire out the end. I bought it at Dollar General. Am I in trouble? In August of this year university administrators and teachers will be able to carry aconcealed weapons on their persons. My jury is still out on this one.
Our illustrious president is guarded by men carrying mainly Sig Sauer P229s and 9mm Glocks. Yet he wants to do away with people carrying guns. Is my life not as valuable as his? Hilary Clinton says 33,000 people a year die from gun violence. Well, here are the real statistics – 21,175 die from suicide by guns, 11,208 die from homicide by guns and 505 die from accidental shootings. Her numbers are correct, but not exactly.
No, I certainly do not know all I need and want to know about carrying a gun. I pray I will never be put in a live-threatening situation where I will be forced to use my 38, but I plan to learn just as all of us should so that we have the knowledge to make an informed decision based on our own principles.
As we are talking about guns, I am giving you a Wild Turkey Breast recipe. We have so many wild turkeys down around Sallis, one would be an easy target.
WILD TURKEY BREAST - 1 turkey breast, 8 ounce of Zesty Italian salad dressing, 8 ounces of white wine, (you could use chicken stock) creole seasoning, lemon pepper, ½ cup butter, 2/3 cup olive oil Mix the dressing and wine and pour into a gallon sized zip lock bag and add the turkey breast. Marinate overnight turning at least once. Drain and discard the marinade. Sprinkle the turkey breast with seasonings and place in an oven bag adding the melted butter and olive oil. Bake in a 350* oven for 1 ½ hours.
