January 20, 2017 – sunrise at 7:16 AM, sunset at 6 PM. Our Mississippi day will be warm and pleasant. In Washington, D.C. it will be just the opposite.
The weather may be pleasant, but the sensation of the day will be rippled with heart-thumping excitement as our 45th president will be sworn into office. This will be the 57th formal presidential inauguration. The dress of the president and president-elect will be that of dark suits and long coats if the weather holds to tradition. Before seats are taken and speeches are given, the president-elect and vice president-elect will be housed at Blair House, the presidential guest house. The men and their wives will enjoy coffee with the Obamas in the White House and attend services at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will perform as well as the New York Rockets. After the orations are given, a parade will follow and one of our Mississippi Bands, Tupelo, will march in this historical event. Early on, before any of this hoopla begins President Obama will issue pardons to those he considers due. Then as everything ends, he will be escorted from the capitol and board a helicopter to depart just as each out-going president has since Gerald Ford in 1977.
There has been much argument, disagreement and controversy over the participants in this election, more so than in the history of this event. The victory itself was so astounding that people were rocked to their existences.
Our entire country was astounded that this was the outcome of such a contested fight! Some were happily surprised while others were sadly overwhelmed. I can remember the night of the election; we decided to go to bed as we turned the entire thing over to One with more comprehension, knowledge and wisdom that my husband and I surely had or ever will have. We, too, were flabbergasted at the result the next morning.
Donald Trump is our new chief, our leader, our spearhead. We do not know what kind of a president he will be. We can conjecture, hypothesize and ponder where the next four years will bring our country, but only the next four years will let us truly know. Our country has some insurmountable difficulties, it seems.
Can we stop our badmouthing, backbiting and spitefulness to try to help pull our great country back together, just as it was at one time? Let us just put our faith in the One who controls ALL things and trust Him with our new leadership for our country...
Our new president says his favorite food is a Meatloaf Sandwich made from his mother’s meatloaf. This is her recipe.
2 pounds lean ground round, 1 diced onion, 1 diced green pepper and 1 diced red bell pepper, 2 cloves of garlic, 1 large fresh tomato diced, 2 large eggs, 2/3 cup of seasoned bread crumbs, ¼ cup parsley, salt and pepper.. 2/3 cup tomato puree Cook peppers, onions, garlic and tomato until tender and mix with meat, eggs, bread crumbs, parsley, salt and pepper. Press into a 14x9 glass dish, top with tomato puree and cook for 45 – 55 minutes at 35*.
