To the Editor:
In a recent Letter to the Editor in the Star Herald, from Ms. Barbara Johnson, I learned that modern journalistic protocol has abandoned the use of courtesy titles. It’s not too surprising that since common sense fell by the wayside decades ago, that courtesy and other commonalities would be collateral damage! I do not “identify” as a journalist, so I will continue the outdated use of courtesy titles as assign of respect…unless I’m on Twitter…then the gloves are off! While we’re on the subject of journalism, I’d like to mention the “group speak” coordinated effort by hundreds of newspapers this week to scold President Trump for an alleged “war on the media.” Like many that are triggered when Trump says “fake news,” they are so hell bent on deposing him that their brains hear “war on media.” Fake News and “the media” are two different things. It’s kinda like when Trump says “illegal immigration” and the “Fake News” can’t get bring themselves to say the words illegal and immigrant consecutively and go all “Chicken Little” with the anti-immigrant false accusations. This media collective will, no doubt, try to insinuate that POTUS is infringing on their Freedom of the Press when actually it the exact opposite. They can, and do, say anything they want and then get all offended when they are called out. People may be all freaked out by Trump’s style, but he is the only person with the ability to confront the left’s war on freedom because of his ability to hit back harder than he’s hit. Without his aggressive demeanor, America would be lost. This is no era in which to be faux-presidential.
In that letter, Ms. Johnson raised the alarm about “Baptist Indoctrination” occurring at the facility of a local community service organization. A while back she warned us of the dangers of the Presbyterians and their lopsided ratio of students of beige to mahogany hues, on the “shades of brown” scale, in their private schools. As a child, I occasionally attended a Methodist church with my Mom and went to VBS at the McVille Baptist church. I suffered no permanent damage from the kool-aid or the Bible stories! At this point, I’m happily “unreached” and not at all worried that they would stop me if I chose to pay homage to Nichiren Daishonen by chanting “nom myoho renge kyo” in front of my Gohanzon. Methinks the lady doth protest too much! If indoctrination is in the conversation, then it must be pointed out that the Baptists and Presbyterians are the least of our worries! The focus should be on educating our young to learn the American work ethic in order to succeed in a Democratic Republic that runs on Free Enterprise! To borrow a popular term, “ I’m woke” to the clear and present danger of a socialist/commie/Marxist hybrid that has permeated what was the Democrat Party, educational institutions and popular culture. This hybrid seems to operate from the liberal/progressive alternative universe of “UpsideDown World” in which everything is the exact opposite of reality. Unfortunately, on a national level, the Democrat Party is too far gone to help run America as it should be run and must be kept out of the majority in the US government.
I’d rather use the space in this paper to talk about local issues. Like…since the 2016 election, America has added nearly 4 million jobs and the economy is booming! Our county should’ve added at least a thousand new good paying jobs by growing our economy during the last two years. The fact that Attala is still flat lining shows the urgent need for a complete change in local leadership ASAP! From top to bottom…state Representative, state Senator, and County Board of Supervisors, we need effective leadership for all, rather than a “good ole boy network” that works great for a few while maintaining an economy built on Welfare Slaves and Social Security.
Rather than just complain about it, I’d like to offer a few suggestions as to how our economy could be improved. A small Amphitheater/Park facility near the town center would generate profit based revenue for local government. It would need adequate occupancy to host ticketed events that would draw thousands of visitors from a huge area at a time and would spawn and support surrounding businesses and create a number of jobs. It would be economically advantageous to make Whippet Stadium a mulit use facility by installing a turf that could be used for ticketed public events. I got Loretta Lynn’s autograph at the Fair in that field bout 50 years ago or so. Private use of this facility for maybe a dozen football and soccer games per year is a complete waste of tax money. Another improvement to consider for the local economy would be to have Holmes College relocate to within walking distance of the town center. Thanks for letting me offer my “food for thought”…hopefully someone munches down on it!
