To the Editor:
I am writing this letter requesting that it be published in The Star Herald.
On June 6, 2018, a reception was held at the Kosciusko Attala Partnership Office for Marie Harmon, honoring her on her retirement from volunteer services.
I, for one, was very disappointed that NO city or county elected official made an appearance.
Not many individuals in Attala County of Kosciusko have donated 30+ years volunteering at the hospital, the nursing home (still is), and Helping Hands. Marie’s selfless service to our community deserves recognition. Not many citizens ever reach the age of ninety and are still volunteering and serving.
In my opinion, the least our city and county officials could have done was acknowledge her years of service by their presence.
On March 25, 2018, a reception was held at Parkway Baptist Church on the occasion of her 90th birthday. Not one city or county official was present.
Both receptions were advertised in The Star Herald.
Hopefully, this letter will remind our elected officials to be more aware of and acknowledge the service of individuals.
