Of deep concern for Danny Townsend “Homeland Security Agent” and me is the proposal for a One Way Street system off of Wells Street to downtown Kosciusko.
This will be a major disaster for Kosciusko and Attala County if it is approved. First of all it will be a major disaster for the Attala County Fire Department on West Jefferson Street. This will force the fire truck and in some cases more than one to turn left on West Jefferson Street causing a “Major Delay” when responding to a fire or other emergency in Attala County. How Sad!
One recommendation given would be to allow the Fire Truck to turn right going against the flow of traffic. This could cause a major wreck resulting in major deaths and injury. Another recommendation made would be to cross over and go up Goodman Street next to Flo Riley, but that would require the Fire Truck to turn right which would be going against the flow of traffic.
Then there is the major problem of a one-way street on West Washington Street across from the Chancery Court Building. This would cause a major parking problem for the Attala County Board of Supervisors, who meet there on a regular basis. And yes, there are court cases that are held in the Chancery Court Building and citizens that go there to get information. The Kosciusko School System has an Administrative Office Building on West Washington Street as well that requires parking.
Making West Jefferson Street one way from Wells Street will result in bikers, joggers, and tourist to have only one way to come to the Court Square to see the Historic Kosciusko Square that is filled with treasured history. Let us not forget that there is court activity at the Attala County Court House almost on a daily basis.
Finally, when there is a major event on the square people would not be able to walk up or park on West Washington Street to attend the event as they can do now.
Making these streets one-way may well cause a Major Disaster of World Proportions. Please do not let this happen!
May God bless the citizens of Kosciusko, Attala County, The Great State of Mississippi and our Beloved USA.
