To the Editor:
Trump lies. It should no longer be news that Trump lies. He lies as freely as the water flowing from yet another busted mainline that makes up our crumbling infrastructure in Mississippi. His lies create issues for those not financially insulated ($150K liquid assets). He lies so often members of the GOP are lying as well. It is a festival of lies with the GOP.
Trump told an unnecessary lie after terrorist bombing in Pittsburgh, Saturday. In his rush to justify his dismissal of the terrorist action on USA by a homegrown terrorist, he stated the NYSE was open after 9/11. The NYSE and NASDAQ were closed 9/11-9/17/2001. There was no need for him to lie. He simply could have stated he would not allow an act of terrorism on USA soil by one of his supporters to stop his rally. Why the lies?
I understand why members of the GOP are rushing to lie about healthcare in the USA. After all they spent 2011-2018 attempting to repeal the Affordable Care Act. I wonder what is it in the water consume by the GOP. Whatever they are drinking makes them think their actions are invisible to the people. I have lost count of the number of ACA repeal attempts by GOP, the number of rural hospital closings across USA, or the fights to the highest courts to not expand Medicaid by GOP. They have done all of these things and now in the Fall of 2018 claim to care about healthcare. They may care about corporations that deal in healthcare but their actions have shown they care not if Little Johnny’s parents can afford his asthma medication.
The public servants whose paychecks come from the people care more about corporations being able to provide golden parachutes for upper level management than they do about the man down the street working two jobs while his wife sits at the hospital with their only child. After seeing the push back against the idea of insurance companies not covering people with preexisting conditions, they stated people with preexisting conditions would be covered. The lie in that statement is they don’t say at what cost. Prior to the ACA if you had a preexisting condition and were allowed to have insurance coverage, your premium would be almost 20X the price of a regular policy via an employer. The ACA allowed everyone to have the same coverage at low rates. GOP has worked overtime to get those rates to rise again. Google Marc Rubio 2015. The GOP doesn’t care if you can afford to be healthy and have shown a willingness to gaslight the public with their lies into thinking they do, don’t fall for it.
The only truth spoken as of late by Republicans came from Mitch McConnell. He said less than 4 weeks from the election, that reforms (cuts) would be necessary for Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare to fix the budget deficits. Remember he is the same GOP person who pushed through the GOP tax cut that benefited the 1% and corporations. The GOP tax bill rushed through Congress and signed by Trump was so bad they are still having to address the individual negatives that have arose as a result. Their solution for the deficit is to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Almost every economist stated prior to the GOP tax bill being passed that it would increase the deficit. GOP pushed the tired trickle down lie. Now McConnell has basically stated that after the midterms in 2019 GOP will cut Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare. I could not believe he would freely make such a truth statement this close to election but he did. I’ve not heard much about his words in mainstream media but Trump’s lies are repeated 24/7 for some reason. Is the press free (First Amendment) or is it now all state media?
We were seen as being a nation with integrity. A nation that was solid. Under Trump and a feckless GOP controlled Congress our standing in the world has fallen. Putin recently was quoted as celebrating the fall of the USA. He felt it was good for us to no longer be the only super power left in the world. We have a Congress that instead of checking Trump on his deadly and economically detrimental lies, join with him in lying. This November 6th vote to return checks and balance to our government. Vote for Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare to be strengthen. We must vote for our nation. Russia and China wait in the wings to divide the spoils if we don’t check this fall we are in under GOP domination. We must vote for Democrats to check this fall of our nation under a complicit GOP controlled Congress.
