Letter to the Kosciusko business community concerning our recent street changes around the square.
I do not know if you were contacted directly about the new bicycle route, I was not. Most of you probably did not know what was going on until they started painting. Then you did not realize the impact it would have on your business.
I cannot speak for other people, but this change is causing my clients unnecessary inconvenience – just to drive down West Jefferson St., or maybe I should say drive up West Jefferson St.
By the way, how many bicycles have you seen recently on this street? I feel sure that a lot of other people in the community are as disappointed with our leaders as I am. This time and money could have been spent in a more useful way. But, I was told that a local business person paid for all this. I question if they paid for the extra city employees’ time and effort to get this done. And by the way, does this local business person actually have a retail business on the square?
Someone should have made a better study of how this was going to affect everyone and made decisions that would benefit the community instead of a few people riding bicycles.
Flora Riley, Kosciusko
