To the Editor:
It’s unfortunate that the guest columnist Tim Kalich used the occasion of the holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King as an excuse to try to vilify our president, Donald J. Trump in the Januaary 18 edition of this paper.
This, after President Trump made it a federal holiday!
Mr. Kalich, in his attempt to deify Dr. King in order to cast dispersions on President Trump, may be doing a little bit of “historical cleansing” to try to assassinate President Trump’s character.
In 2027 the FBI files on surveillance and investigations regarding Dr. King will be declassified. Until then, many allegations of inappropriate activities against him do exist.
That being said, Dr. King undeniably was an incredible influence that changed our country for the better. He was the perfect imperfect leader for the time. And don’t forget the antics of those other perfect imperfect national icons, JFK, Bill Clinton and Obama.
Fast forward to now, and we again have the perfect imperfect leader for our time… President Trump. What you see is what you get; real transparency for a change. He’s not a politician. The only thing worse than a politician or a lawyer, is a lawyer that IS a politician. They never get anything done. We’ve needed a businessman in charge of the country for a long time. The business of America is business.
Getting back to topic, I’d like to suggest to Mr. Kalich that he shouldn’t use the celebration of a past great leader as a cheap political tool to criticize our current great leader. The attempt to brand President Trump a racist is factually inaccurate. Just as those on the left try to define illegal aliens as “immigrants,” Mr. Kalich seems to be confused about the difference between races and countries. Having been to parts of the world that would perfectly qualify for classification as “(expletive deleted) countries,” I can vouch for the accuracy of Mr. Trump’s alleged comments.
Lastly, if Mr. Kalich is truly concerned about the state of racism in our country, then he should broaden his view. It doesn’t take much of an effort to see that racism isn’t just for white people anymore.
