New changes to drone restrictions are mostly positive.
Drones are a much-discussed topic over the past few years, including its positives and negatives and its benefits and concerns. When first introduced, drones seemed like something out of a science-fiction novel or a "Jetsons" cartoon, but they quickly became the newest example of how technology has advanced.
I finally joined the bandwagon last week and purchased my very own drone. I now understand the fascination of the product and the great capabilities that it possesses.
Safety is a top priority. As much as people want to see progress, no one wants progress that puts lives in jeopardy.
Thus, the need for rules, but, as the saying goes, "Rules were made to be broken" -- or at least changed. The Federal Aviation Administration has announced new rules for commercial use of these unmanned aircraft last month, which restricted use for commercial operators.
But it does also provide business benefits in various industries, including photography, real estate, farming and, of course, journalism.
As a journalist, it is a great tool that can help give one different vantage points that were once only seen by plane. However, I also understand that rules need to be in place to help protect the safety and privacy of everyone.
I am looking forward to all the new photos that I will be able to take with my new drone.
