The Friends of the Attala County Library annual membership drive is underway. The Friends of the Attala County Library officials ask you to consider becoming a member of the Friends of the Attala County Library. Membership can mean financial or volunteer support or both.
The Friends’ goals for 2017 include funding the purchase of new furniture for the library children’s area, providing funding and volunteering for children, teen and adult programming throughout the year and purchasing an electronic sign to be located on Huntington Street.
The Attala County Library Friends is a 501©3 non-profit (membership dues are tax-deductible) organization of volunteers made up of individuals, families, organizations and businesses whose mission is to
• Support the library in developing improved programs, services and facilities.
• Raise funds to accomplish these goals.
• Raise awareness in the community of the library resources, programming and services.
• Advocate on behalf of your public library.
The Library Friends host a range of fundraising events, including used book sales and bake sales and assist with special programming, events and projects throughout the year. During 2016 the Friends purchased Summer Library Program prizes for 327 children and funded the remodeling of the public kitchen area. Friends also volunteered at teen knitting classes, Summer Library Program registration and numerous events, filled 500 bags for the Kosciusko Halloween Boo-Fest, and assisted with the library Christmas float and Open House.
Attala County Friends of the Library membership forms are available at your Attala County Library or call 662-289-5141 and we will mail one to you. In addition to knowing that you are supporting a vital part of your community, Friends members receive a monthly email detailing upcoming library programs and events as well as a listing of “New Books” at the library, a quarterly newsletter published by the Friends that includes a report on Friends activities and discounted rates for photocopy and fax services at the library.
The Attala Library Friends meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month at noon in the Library meeting room. A light lunch is served and lunch donation is appreciated.
Support your public library, the Attala County Library, today by becoming a Friends of the Library member.
