Sarah Hope Carter Ellis
Hope Ellis, 97, passed away Thursday October 16, 2025 at her residence in Kosciusko.
Funeral services were 11:00 am Monday, October 20, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church in Kosciusko. Visitation was from 9:30 am until service time. Burial followed at Parkway Cemetery.
She is survived by daughter Sara Kay Ellis Davis (Macon) of Brandon; son Kennith G. Ellis, Jr., of Winona; grandchildren Morgan Love Evans of Wiggins, Megan Carter Evans Norvell (Louie) of Madison, Hunter G. Ellis, and Elizabeth Hope Ellis of Winona and Booneville; great-grandchildren Bailey Elizabeth Norvell and Emma Grace Norvell; a multitude of nieces and nephews including special niece Sheila Faith Clarke McCready; and long-time chosen family Mary Young and Jeanne and Owen Oliver.
Hope graduated from Kosciusko High School in the class of 1947 and from Mississippi State College for Women in the class of 1951. She was employed by The California Oil Company in Jackson and by the Attala County Department of Human Services. She served as the County Director for 22 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Kosciusko since October 1938. She served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Sunday School and taught in the Preschool Department. She joined the Mary Thornton Bible Class, which she served as Secretary/Treasurer for over 50 years. She was active in a church Circle serving as Treasurer for many years and Vacation Bible School Treasurer for over 30 years. She enjoyed reading and was an avid Bridge player.
Hope was preceded in death by her parents Edgar W. and Maude Smith Carter; husband Kennith Garland Ellis; brother Edgar Carter, Jr.; and sisters Joy Carter Dickerson, Faith Carter, and Love Carter Clarke Sultan.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, First Presbyterian Church, or French Camp in her memory.
