H.J. Simmons, age 92, of Lena, Mississippi, entered his eternal rest on November 30, 2025, at his home, peacefully surrounded by his family in the presence of the Lord. He was born December 10, 1932, in McCool, Mississippi, to Henley Joseph Simmons and Violet McDaniel Simmons.

Simmons, and Wilma S. Hamilton; and by his beloved grandchildren Jacob Wayne Simmons, Justin Taylor Simmons, and Tracy Tyler Weaver.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Ellin Bolt Simmons, who faithfully walked beside him through every season of life. He leaves behind his children: Roger J. Simmons (Shelia) of Lena, MS; Gerald W. Simmons (Regina) of Kosciusko, MS; Cindy S. Tavares of Flowood, MS; and Maurice C. Simmons (Kathryn) of Brandon, MS. H.J. also leaves a rich legacy in his 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him great joy.
H.J. proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. A skilled mechanic by trade, he later owned and operated his own business, earning the respect of his customers and community through honest work and a servant’s heart.
A man of unwavering faith, H.J. loved the Lord and lived his life in a way that reflected his devotion. He was a loving husband, a steady and dedicated father, and a strong spiritual example to his family.
An avid horseman, H.J. found peace and purpose outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, working with animals, and spending time in God’s creation. Gifted with an uncommon ability, he could train almost any animal, approaching each creature with patience, understanding, and gentle authority.
Though he has departed this earthly life, H.J.’s faith assures us he is now rejoicing in the presence of his Savior. His love, his wisdom, and his steadfast spirit will continue to guide the family he cherished.
