Dennis Dewey Wray
Dennis Dewey Wray, Master Sergeant, Retired, 89, of McCool, Mississippi passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at his residence. Visitation was from 1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Doty Springs Baptist Church. Funeral services followed the visitation at 2:00 p.m., at Doty Springs Baptist Church with burial at Doty Springs Cemetery. Rev. Tony Fortenberry officiated the services.
Dennis was born February 9, 1936, to Dewey Wray and Hattie Adams Wray in Bassett, Virginia. He was retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant for 21 years. He was a member of Doty Springs Baptist Church and Oak Level Baptist Church in Bedford, Virginia.
Dennis is survived by his daughters, Denise Black of Ethel, Mississippi, Evelyn Wray (Mike) Wood of LaVergne, Tennessee, Sharon Whitaker of Longbeach, Mississippi, Helen (Barry) Black of Louisville, Mississippi, and Lisa (Phil) Pettit of Kosciusko, Mississippi; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great- great-grandchildren; and his sister, Erma Wray Wingfield of North Dinwiddie, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Wray and Hattie Adams Wray; his beloved wife of 59 years Marie Land Wray; infant daughter, Patricia Elizabeth Wray; son-in-law, Larry Black; granddaughter, Ayla Ann Pettit; and sister, Edna Amos.
Serving as pallbearers are Jamie Black, Joshua Black, Christopher Wray, Carlos Black, Robbie Barnes, and Will Kidd. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Dobbin Thrasher, and Paul Holly.
