Tommy Gene Curtis, age 76, died on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. Tommy was a native of Attala County and after attending Shady Grove Community School and Ethel High School, went on to serve in both the US Army and US Navy. After discharge he worked on the river barge and then chose to serve his country again and began his career as a long haul truck driver during the time the interstate system was still being planned and built. After retiring from truck driving he became a volunteer for Helping Hand Ministries and a volunteer fire fighter and eventually Fire Chief of Friendship Volunteer Fire Dept.
Tommy never met a stranger that stayed a stranger for very long. He was always quick with a smile, a helping hand and a little joke to brighten their day. He loved people, he loved his family and this community.
He is preceded in death by his father Kimble, his mother Mary Sue and three brothers Allie, Wayne and Earnie. He is survived by his wife Ethel and two children Arthur and Margaret, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, eight nieces and nephews, fifteen great-nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at Shady Grove Community Center on November 3, 2019.
