Ruby Moore Bowie died Friday, Dec. 4, 2020, after a year of debilitating health issues. She was born Mar. 17, 1949, in Kosciusko to Claitor Hampton Moore and Aurice Wasson Moore. She was a graduate of Kosciusko High School and Holmes Junior College. During her career, Mrs. Bowie worked as a bookkeeper at Duke Plymouth-Dodge in Kosciusko and later at Bowie Chevrolet in Ackerman. She ended her career in retirement as the librarian for the Choctaw County Library. A dedicated member of Ackerman United Methodist Church, she served as church treasurer for many years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed Scrabble games with friends on a regular basis. She enjoyed years of fishing with her dear sister-in-law, Charlsie Bowie, who passed away in 2014. Her home and cooking made her the consummate hostess for many gatherings of the Bowie and Moore families. While in college, she embraced a friendship with Kat Taylor Wood, formerly of Ackerman, which stood the test of time. During the last two years, Kat was an al¬most constant caregiver for Ruby, whether driving for doctor visits or stays in the hospital. Mrs. Bowie was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Bowie, as well as her parents. She is survived by her son, Hamp (Amanda) McKnight of Merritt Island, Florida; her brothers, James C. (Judy) Moore of Carthage and John C. (Nancy) Moore of Ridgeland; two grandchildren, Mitchell and Nola McKnight; a hosts of Moore and Bowie nieces and nephews; and friends, Kat Wood and Frank Black. A graveside service of death and resurrection was held on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Enon Cemetery in Ackerman officiated by the Rev. Jerry Davis.
