Nora Gladys Cagle descended from one of Attala County’s early settler families, grew up the youngest of eight siblings on a small farm, and spent most of her adult life in the county.
She married Hoyt Miller in 1933 and is survived by their two sons, Max and John Miller; two grandsons, and six great- grandchildren. After Hoyt’s death in 1969, she married Michael Hamaker who died in 1992. Soon thereafter, she moved to Atlanta to be near her sons and grandchildren.
Nora celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends on November 2, 2016, and passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017. She was blessed with a sharp mind and keen sense of humor to the end.
Along with her devotion to family, Nora will be best remembered for her unwavering Christian faith and wise counsel on matters of both faith and everyday living. A generation of Kosciusko natives who grew up in the First United Methodist Church will remember her fondly as their youth counselor. Many others, whose lives she has impacted in more recent years, refer to her lovingly as “Mama Nora.” There was a special bond, beautiful to observe, between Nora and her great -grandchildren.
Friends are invited to join in a celebration of Nora’s life at Kings Bridge Retirement Center (3055 Briarcliff Rd. NE, Atlanta Ga. 30329), in the Pavilion, on June 3, at 3 p.m. Her ashes will be interred in Kosciusko at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Youth Scholarship Fund at Kosciusko First United Methodist Church (P.O.Box 1293, Kosciusko, MS 39090). Please note on the check: “Nora Hamaker, Youth Scholarship Fund.”
