Master Sergeant Larry Moak, United States Airforce Retired
Master Sergeant Moak retired from the Airforce after 30 years of service. He was dedicated, professional, even-tempered, detail oriented, prompt, courteous, experienced team leader, efficient in emergency situations. He died Dec. 10, 2016, at the Martha Jo Leslie State Veterans Home in Kosciusko.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, at Berea Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was held 1-3 p.m. Sunday, at the church.
Master Sergeant Moak is survived by his daughter Nadia Lauren Moak of McCool; step-daughter, Kylie Rose Midyett of Chicago, Ill.; his mother, Jean Turner Moak of McCool; his fiancée, Kathy Evans; sister, Pearl Allen and husband Rev. Tommy Allen of McCool; brother, Bill Moak of McCool; nieces, Tracy and Stacy Allen; nephew, Will Moak and wife Carrie; great-niece Harlie Rae Moak.
He was preceded in death by his father, L.V.Moak.
He was trained and experienced in situational awareness, Extensive Worldwide career with U.S. Government, maintained certification in C.P.R., First Aid, Firefighting, and Marksmanship.
He graduated Nurnberg American High School in 1965.
1966-1970 U.S. Airforce – Ching Chuan Kang A.F.B. Taiwan, rotating to Vietnam as Aircraft Mechanic, recovered battle damaged aircraft under hostile conditions.
1970-1971 Pinkerton’s Detective Agency, New Orleans, La. – Performed undercover investigations for corporate theft and sabotage, Solved problems with downtime and profit loss.
1972-1973 Aircraft Mechanic/Supervisor with Hurricane Hunters at Keesler A.F.B. MS. Maintained Storm Tracking Aircraft.
1974-1976 Contracted by Lockheed Aircraft International to train Royal Saudi Airforce in Jedda, Saudi Arabia and maintain King Faisal’s personal Aircraft.
1977-1980 Naval Air Station, New Orleans, Egress Technician, Weapons Load Crew Chief, Assembled and loaded bombs, missiles and ammunition; maintained ejection seats; supervised crews during readiness exercises.
1980-1984 Crew Chief of rescue aircraft at Homestead A.F.B., Florida, travelled worldwide maintaining aircraft and served as Crew Chief of rescue aircraft during first four space shuttle launches at Cape Kennedy.
1984-1990 Served on Contract Administrator’s staff at Mississippi Army Ammunition Plant and evaluated 1700 personnel for compliance with government directives for manufacturing ammunition. He was certified in Engineering Drawing Interpretation, Statistical Quality Control, Statistical Process Control and Non-Destructive testing methods of Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrant, Eddy Current and Ultrasonic Testing.
1990-1998 Quality Assurance Supervisor/Senior Munitions Inspector at Eglin A.F.B., Florida where he maintained serviceability of World’s largest explosive stockpile, worked with foreign and experimental test projects, coordinated handling and shipment of G.B.U. 28 “Bunker Buster” to end first Iraqi war.
1999-2013 Edison Chouest Offshore L.L.C. Master of Steam Power and Sailing Vessels, Captained boat at Louisiana Offshore Oil Port to assist in mooring and unloading crude oil from supertankers. T & T Offshore,
Galveston, Texas, Captained 110 foot launch boat delivering supplies to ships offshore.
Shell Island Cruises, Panama City Florida – Captained 150 passenger excursion vessel for dolphin watch and snorkeling where he insured safety and timely schedule.
2014- Global Sector Services where he maintained a safe environment for FEMA Disaster Recovery Personnel.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nadia Lauren Moak’s educational fund at the Rensant Bank in Kosciusko.
Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
