Martha Jane Reid, 57, of Ackerman, MS, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS.
Martha was born on December 30, 1960, to Mike and Jackie Martin of Kosciusko. She graduated from East Holmes Academy in 1979 and received her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Mississippi State University in 1984. Following her graduation from MSU, she worked at Holmes Community College as a teacher in the daycare. She also taught kindergarten at First United Methodist Church in Kosciusko for three years. For the next 10 years, she was an employee of Dr. Claude A. Jackson's office in Kosciusko before becoming a full-time homemaker until her death.
On June 18, 1988, she married Dale Reid, and together they had two children, Miranda Worrell (Josh) of Ackerman, MS and James "Bo" Reid of Lubbock, TX. On June 30, 2015, she welcomed her only grandchild, Noah Worrell, whom she adored.
In addition to these family members, she is survived by her mother, Jackie Martin of Kosciusko; her brother Randy Martin (Jamie) of Lake, MS; her sister Marilyn Gatlin (Del) of College Station, TX; her mother-in-law JoAnne Reid of Ackerman; her sister-in-law Jan Bunch (Will) of Saltillo; four nephews; one niece; and many cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Mike Martin of Kosciusko, and her father-in-law Carlton M. "Bo" Reid of Ackerman.
Martha was a member of Ackerman Baptist Church and an avid supporter of Choctaw County Athletics.
Visitation for Martha will be held Sunday, April 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman. The funeral service will take place at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 16, at Ackerman Baptist Church with burial following at Enon Cemetary.
