Kathrine Irene McKay joyfully entered the gates of heaven June 29, 2017. She was born in Leake County on February 6, 1933, to the late Ivy and Mary Lou Johnson.
Irene attended Kosciusko High School where she met Norman McKay, the love of her life. They were married January 7, 1955 and started their family in Mississippi before moving to Texas in 1968. She was an active member of the National Association of Women in Construction for many years where she met many lifelong friends. She liked to travel and find adventure in life. In retirement, she and Norman spent several summers working in Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks.
Irene loved her family and friends with a passion. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman and brother Carlton Johnson of Carthage.
She is survived by her daughter, Kellie McKay Postle, husband John Postle of Bastrop, Texas; her son, Doug McKay of Galveston, Texas; also grandsons Reid, his wife Jesse, and Morgan Postle as well as her sisters Bobbie Oliver and Rosemary Kelly. She also leaves behind numerous other loving family and friends.
A visitation was held Thursday, July 6, from noon until 2 p.m. with a memorial service immediately following. Both were held at Schmidt Funeral Home 1344 W. Grand Parkway South, Katy, Texas 77494.
